Civil servants and educators will receive enhanced pay for working beyond their regular hours. The remuneration is set to boost by 4.76% starting November 1, 2024, followed by an additional 5.5% increment beginning February 1, 2025. This decision was made by the cabinet and made public by the Ministry of Education. The government anticipates incurring an extra 7.5 million euros in annual expenditures.

Overtime predominantly impacts educators, but they still need to log at least four overtime hours per month to get compensated. Those who work less than three hours won't receive pay for their additional hours. This rule remains unchanged with the updated overtime compensation regulations for state employees, as confirmed by a ministry spokesperson to the German Press Agency.

Approximately one-third of educators impacted

The aforementioned data reveals that to date, 1,326 state civil servants including 1,302 educators received pay for their overtime work. Additionally, 2,713 educators employed under the tariff system were affected by this. Consequently, approximately one-third of educators in MV are impacted.

Education Minister Simone Oldenburg (Left Party) asserted, "Teachers who are ready to substitute at short notice for their colleagues and avoid canceled lessons should also benefit financially."

Finance Minister Heiko Geue (SPD) clarified in the press release that increasing remuneration for ordered overtime shows appreciation towards state employees. "Compared to other federal states, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern now ranks second." This move is considered positive in the recruitment race for teachers.

Teachers, like other civil servants, will also benefit from the enhanced pay for working beyond their regular hours, as confirmed by the Education Minister Simone Oldenburg. The updated overtime compensation regulations will positively impact the recruitment of teachers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as pointed out by Finance Minister Heiko Geue.
