Regional court - Teachers accused of abuse in daycare center
Two nursery school teachers at a daycare center in Lower Franconia have been charged with abusing children. The acts are said to have taken place at a facility in Greußenheim (Würzburg district) at unspecified times between September and December 2021, according to a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office in Würzburg on Wednesday. Four children aged between 18 months and 3 years are said to have been affected by the assaults.
According to the statement, the authorities have charged a 30-year-old woman with intentional bodily harm, coercion, abuse of wards, dangerous bodily harm and attempted serious abuse of wards by "active action". A 37-year-old woman is said to have remained inactive during most of the acts. According to the indictment, she did not report the acts to the parents or the kindergarten management in good time in order to prevent future assaults. She is therefore accused of being guilty of intentional bodily harm, abuse of wards and dangerous bodily harm by omission.
The 30-year-old has so far denied the allegations. Her colleague, on the other hand, has confessed during the investigations. Due to the particular significance of the case, the public prosecutor's office has brought charges before the regional court. This special significance is due to the age of the victims and the fact that the crimes were committed in the kindergarten setting. The court must now decide whether to admit the charges.
