Taylor Swift postpones concert in Rio due to heat
Following the death of a fan at a Taylor Swift concert in Rio de Janeiro, the US singer has postponed another performance in the Brazilian metropolis due to the extreme heat.
"We have made the decision to postpone tonight's performance due to the extreme temperatures in Rio," the musician wrote on Instagram. "The safety and well-being of my fans, colleagues and team members always comes first."
Brazil is currently groaning under a heatwave. On Saturday afternoon, 42.5 degrees were measured in Rio. A 23-year-old fan collapsed at Taylor Swift's concert in the Nilton Santos stadium on Friday, as the news portal G1 reported. The young woman was taken to hospital and died. According to the city's health department, the cause of death is still being investigated. Fans had previously complained that they were prevented from bringing bottles of water into the stadium despite the high temperatures.
Swift expressed her shock at the death of her fan. "I can't believe I'm writing these words, but it breaks my heart to say that we lost a fan tonight before my show," the musician wrote on Instagram. "I can't even express how devastated I am about this."
Despite the postponement, music enthusiasts are still eager to attend Taylor Swift's concert in Rio, hoping for a safer event. Unfortunately, accidents involving music fans have been a concerning trend globally, making artists and event organizers more vigilant about audience safety.
