The Taxpayers' Association is calling for the abolition of the dog tax in Rhineland-Palatinate. On Tuesday in Mainz, the association cited its own survey of the 50 largest municipalities in the state as the reason, according to which there are significant regional differences in the costs for dog owners. According to the survey, the dog tax for the first dog in Mainz is the most expensive at 186 euros per year. In Nieder-Olm, on the other hand, dog owners paid 45 euros per year. The dog tax is compulsory in most municipalities in Germany and is determined by the municipalities themselves. According to the taxpayers' association, the data was compiled primarily from the published dog tax statutes of the municipalities.
