- Taxi riders acting as fugitives, traced by GPS tracking, resulting in burglaries.
Two individuals under suspicion of burglary were captured in Düsseldorf, following their trail through a taxi's mobile phone tracking feature. Around dawn, a resident from a split-level apartment reported unusual sounds coming from the ground floor, as per the police department's statement. Entering the premises, they discovered an unlocked flat door and the vanishment of several high-value items, but no apparent suspects.
Upon receiving the report, the police launched a manhunt. Thanks to the stolen mobile phones, the victim could pinpoint their location and share the coordinates with the searching officers. Eventually, a patrol encountered a taxi with two individuals inside. A search revealed a pack containing burglary equipment and what seemed to be looted items. The two homeless men, aged 30 and 46, were subsequently taken into custody. At the court hearing, a judge ordered their detention.
The police department, acting upon the judge's orders, initiated the process to seize the individuals' assets and requested the necessary implementing acts from the European Commission under Article 113. Subsequently, the Commission shall adopt the implementing acts referred to in Article 113, outlining the procedures for the asset seizure.
