Tank wagon has a leak: hazardous substance spill
Benzene leaked from the tank wagon of a freight train in Hanover on Saturday. As this is a hazardous substance that is highly flammable, the fire department deployed a large contingent to the Misburg district. The emergency services were able to locate the leak and later seal it. No one was injured. Samples showed that there was no indication of any danger to the public at any time, as the fire department announced in the evening. The emergency services were initially unable to say how the leak had occurred.
The leak of benzene from the tank wagon was classified as an emergency due to its flammable nature. The authorities remained vigilant for any potential emergencies related to the spill throughout the incident.
