- Tah discusses the speculations surrounding player transfers
After a lot of talk about his future, German footballer Jonathan Tah, known for his work with Bayer Leverkusen's defense line, has finally broken his silence. He penned down on Instagram, "Lots of chatter about me and my plans, some points weren't depicted accurately, but I'll delve into details at a suitable moment." The 28-year-old sportsman is part of the national football team.
Tah was a hot prospect for FC Bayern Munich but chose to stay put with champions Leverkusen. This move stirred up trouble between the bosses of both clubs. "I did mull over transfer possibilities, but it's clear now that I'll wrap up a decade with Bayer 04," Tah added. He debuted in the Bundesliga for Bayer 04 back in 2015.
Eberl: "Thrown under the bus"
Max Eberl, Bayern Munich's sports director, felt "thrown under the bus and exposed to a light that didn't match the confidential talks" because of Leverkusen's executive Fernando Carro's criticism. Carro had earlier said, "I don't think much of Max Eberl at all," but later backtracked and apologized. Despite the speculations, the transition of Carro to Bayern never materialized.
Eberl requested Leverkusen again towards the end of the transfer window, just in case Bayern decided to sell and had funds for Tah. "Leverkusen didn't entertain that," said Eberl, "It's no big deal, it was discussed, negotiated, tried."
Tah's decision to remain with Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga, despite interest from FC Bayern Munich, caused tension between the two clubs' management. Max Eberl, Bayern's sports director, felt misrepresented following Fernando Carro's criticism, leading to a public apology from Carro. Despite the upheaval, Carro's transition to Bayern never materialized.
