SZA at the top of the Grammy nominations - women dominate
American singer-songwriter SZA is the favorite for the 2024 Grammy Awards. The 34-year-old, whose real name is Solána Rowe, was nominated nine times on Friday for what is probably the most famous music award in the world, including for her song "Kill Bill" and the album "SOS".
Overall, women dominated the announcement of the contenders for next year's awards with many nominations, including Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus and the band Boygenius with Phoebe Bridgers. In the prestigious "Album of the Year" category, singer Jon Batiste is the only man in with a chance of winning.
Billie Eilish, the big winner of 2020, received five of her nominations for her hit "What Was I Made For" from the "Barbie" film. In total, music from the pink box office hit received over ten nominations and is likely to play a role at the awards. Producer Jack Antonoff and Canadian sound engineer Serban Ghenea also have several chances of winning the coveted statue.
Overall, a showdown between Swift - who has triggered worldwide hype with her current tour - SZA and Rodrigo is emerging in the three most important categories. All three are nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Recording of the Year.
The Grammys are to be awarded for the 66th time on February 4, 2024 in Los Angeles. Around 13,000 members of the Recording Academy decide on the winners of the golden gramophones, which are among the most coveted music awards in the world and are presented in 94 categories.
