Soccer - Swiss footballers move into EM camp in Stuttgart

The Swiss national soccer team is moving into Stuttgart for its training camp during the European Championships next summer. As the city announced on Wednesday, the German preliminary round opponents will be staying at the Waldhotel in Stuttgart's Degerloch district. Coach Murat Yakin's team will train in the neighboring stadium on the Waldau, the home ground of regional league club Stuttgarter Kickers.

"It's great that the Swiss team is taking up residence directly under the television tower in Stuttgart," said Lord Mayor Frank Nopper (CDU). " Switzerland is our esteemed and friendly neighboring country and the Swiss team is sure to bring many soccer fans to our city."

At the European Championship tournament (June 14 to July 14), the team led by captain Granit Xhaka from Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will first play Hungary in Cologne on June 15 (3 p.m.). This will be followed by the match against Scotland on June 19 (9:00 p.m.). Switzerland will face the German team coached by Julian Nagelsmann on June 23 (9 p.m.) in Frankfurt/Main.
