Swift streams concert film for her 34th birthday
Pop star Taylor Swift has a birthday surprise: on December 13, she will release her concert film for her current world tour "The Eras Tour" via streaming, the singer announced on social media. Swift will be 34 years old on that day.
She wanted to celebrate their year together in a fun way with her fans at home, the singer continued. Compared to the movie, the streaming version also contains three more songs - "Wildest Dreams", "The Archer" and "Long Live". The stream will first be available in the USA and Canada, with other countries to follow.
Concert film sets record
"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" was released in cinemas worldwide in mid-October. The concert film immediately set a record on its opening weekend - with box office takings of around 95 million dollars in North America alone, the film surpassed the most successful concert film to date, "Never Say Never" (2011) by Canadian singer Justin Bieber, which earned 73 million dollars over its entire run.
Swift's film reached another milestone on Monday. It has now grossed 250 million dollars at the box office worldwide, according to industry publications "Variety" and "The Hollywood Reporter", citing figures from the world's largest cinema chain AMC. The film is therefore one of the top 20 earners of the current year.
The singer has been on tour around the world since March. She concluded her South American leg with a concert in São Paulo on Sunday, and the tour is set to continue in Japan in February. The European kick-off is planned for May in Paris. In July, she also plans to perform in Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg and Munich.
Despite the cinema success of "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour", many fans who weren't able to attend the concert in person will be delighted to know that people can still enjoy the show from the comfort of their homes. On Taylor Swift's 34th birthday, people can stream an extended version of the concert film, which includes additional songs like "Wildest Dreams", "The Archer" and "Long Live".
