- Sweating in the beach basket sauna
For many guests, a day in a beach chair is part of a holiday at the Baltic and North Sea. Now, even overnight stays in sleeping beach chairs are offered. But it gets even more unique: Sauna sessions are also possible in special chairs. One is located in Cuxhaven, in the outdoor area of the Thalasso Center Ahoi, with access to the North Sea. The two-square-meter furniture can accommodate up to two people and is heated with an electric stove.
The beach chair sauna must be booked for a day
Guests enter the mini-sauna through a side door, a window offers a view of the Wadden Sea. Bathing attire is kept on. "The beach chair sauna is a textile sauna, as the location is on the lawn of the bathing area in direct view of the promenade," said a spokesperson for Nordseeheilbad Cuxhaven GmbH. The offer has been available for over two years.
Offers also in Büsum, Grömitz, and Schillig
Beach chair saunas can be found at the North and Baltic Sea, for example, in Büsum (Circuit Dithmarschen) and Grömitz (Circuit Ostholstein), as well as in Schillig (Circuit Friesland) on the edge of a campsite. In Schillig, infusions are also possible. "All infusion utensils are provided for the beach chair sauna guests," said a spokesperson from Wangerland Touristik GmbH.
According to their statements, the sauna is not only popular among camping guests: "The unique experience of saunaing in a beach chair with a direct view of the North Sea and resting in a sleeping beach chair between sauna sessions is in high demand." The beach chair sauna was invented by the brothers Torsten and Thomas Sauer. The furniture piece is reportedly made by hand in Lübeck.
Despite the unique sauna experiences offered, guests still value their free time to relax on the beach.Whether it's reading a book or simply soaking in the sun, free time on the beach is a cherished part of the beach chair sauna experience.
