- Suspects jump into the Spree after robbery
Two suspected robbers jumped into the Spree River while fleeing. Police apprehended one of the two, with the second suspect escaping, as reported by police. Initial findings suggest that both suspects threatened the staff of a bar in Friedrichshain and demanded the cash register be handed over on Thursday night. When the men failed to open the cash register, they tore it from its moorings and fled with it.
Witnesses reported that the suspected robbers ran towards the Warschauer Straße. Along the way, they discarded the stolen cash register. According to police reports, a witness blocked their path with their car near the East-Side-Gallery. One of the men allegedly collided with the vehicle before both suspects jumped into the Spree River. Police later apprehended one of them, a 29-year-old, who was taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.
The police officer directing traffic near Warschauer Straße shared that the witness's actions might have contributed to the one robbers' apprehension. Subsequently, the police will deploy more officers around the area to ensure safety and potentially locate the second suspect.
