- Suspects identified after attack on high-voltage tower

After an attack on a high-voltage pylon in the municipality of Mellensee (Teltow-Fläming district), police have identified a suspect. The 40-year-old man admitted to the crime from May 2023, a police spokeswoman confirmed. There is currently no indication of a political motive. The man is accused of sawing through the metal supports of a high-voltage pylon. When witnesses approached him, he fled, leaving behind approximately a five-centimeter deep scratch.

Police do not currently see a connection to the arson attack on the power supply at the Tesla plant in Grünheide. "There is no link to the arson attack on March 5, 2024, in Gosen-Neu Zittau (Oder-Spree district), based on current findings," the spokeswoman said. Unknown perpetrators had set fire to a power pylon on a field in March of this year, which also supplied the Tesla factory. Production was halted, affecting tens of thousands of residents with power outages.

The suspect confessed to cutting the metal supports of the high-voltage pylon, which were of circular cross-section. Despite the incident, there seems to be no relation to other incidents involving power supply disruptions, such as the arson attack on the Tesla plant, as investigations suggest different perpetrators and motives for each event.
