Stormarn district - Suspected wrong-way driver causes accident

Two people were seriously injured in a traffic accident on the Autobahn 1 between Bad Oldesloe and Reinfeld (Stormarn district), presumably due to a wrong-way driver. According to initial findings, the driver of a courier vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction on Monday evening and collided sideways with an oncoming car, as the police reported on Tuesday night. Its two occupants, a man and a woman, were seriously injured. Both suffered facial injuries and were taken to hospital, according to a police spokesperson.

The 37-year-old man who caused the accident was uninjured. He had probably made a U-turn on the highway after missing an exit, the police spokesman said. As the driver was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, a blood sample was taken. After the accident in the roadworks area, the lane in the direction of Lübeck was temporarily narrowed to one lane.
