Radical ideologies - Suspected "Reichsbürger" facing trial for terrorism charges
A suspected right-wing extremist member of the "Kaiserreichsgruppe" is set to face trial at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court starting next week. The court made the announcement on Tuesday. The individual, a 49-year-old man residing in Mettmann near Düsseldorf, is accused of being part of the "Reichsbürger" group and planning a treasonous act against the Federation. Additionally, he is charged with illegally possessing Polish bombs.
The "Kaiserreichsgruppe" is believed to have formed as early as January 2022, with the goal of dismantling the democratic system of the Federal Republic of Germany and replacing it with an authoritarian regime similar to the German Empire's constitution from 1871, according to the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office's indictment, which was recently approved by the court.
Investigators allege that the accused first connected with two alleged main suspects of the "Kaiserreichsgruppe" through the Telegram platform. During a series of personal meetings, the man purportedly expressed his enthusiasm to participate in the coup planned by the group. It's alleged that they intended to target Germany's energy supply. The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court has scheduled 20 hearing days for the trial, running from June 5th to September 17th.
