- Suspected kidnapping of woman stopped in Bavaria
Thanks to the quick thinking of a witness, a suspected kidnapping in the Schweinfurt region was resolved within minutes, according to the police. A 49-year-old man allegedly assaulted a woman two years his senior and forced her into the trunk of his car in Bergrheinfeld before driving off, police reported. A witness notified the police and tracked the car while providing continuous updates on his location.
In just seven minutes from the initial report to the arrest, a massive police response, aided by the witness's information, led to the woman's rescue and the man's provisional arrest, approximately six kilometers from the scene, in Schweinfurt. The witness "acted superbly" and did everything right, praised a police spokesperson.
Police are now investigating charges of kidnapping and attempted homicide. The woman sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries in the attack. The relationship between the attacker and the victim, and the motive behind the crime, remains unclear.
The suspected abduction was potentially a case of kidnapping, as stated by the police, due to the man allegedly forcing the woman into his car's trunk. The witness's timely action and continuous updates played a crucial role in preventing a prolonged abduction.
