- Suspected Helper in the Escape Arrested
A 45-year-old man from the Germersheim district has been taken into custody on suspicion of aiding and abetting a prison escape. The suspect is alleged to have assisted a prison inmate in his escape from Bruchsal Prison (JVA) in October, as reported by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Landau, Rhineland-Palatinate.
Initial findings suggest that he was involved in the escape plan of a then 43-year-old prisoner. The latter managed to evade the prison guards during a supervised outing to a recreational area near the Sollachsee in Germersheim and fled. The 45-year-old is suspected of picking him up in his car near the lake and helping him escape. The escaped prisoner was reportedly rearrested in Moldova in July of this year.
The alleged accomplice was presented to a judge at Landau District Court on Sunday, who issued a warrant for his arrest. He was then immediately taken to prison, and his electronic devices were seized. The investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Landau Criminal Investigation Department is ongoing.
