Heilbronn - Suspected con artists are in custody after shock call

Two suspected con artists have been remanded in custody for allegedly taking cash and jewelry from a senior citizen in Heilbronn following a shock call. The two suspects, aged 19 and 20, were brought before a magistrate last Friday, the police and public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday.

The suspected con artists are said to have called a 71-year-old woman from Villingen-Schwenningen (Schwarzwald-Baar district) and made her believe that her daughter had caused a fatal accident and that the senior citizen could avert her daughter's imprisonment by paying bail.

With several tens of thousands of euros, gold coins and other valuables in her luggage, the woman is said to have been driven to Heilbronn in her car by the perpetrators to hand them over. Her husband informed the police because she had stayed away for so long.

The police reached the senior citizen by telephone after the handover. Because the woman had partially memorized the license plate number of the man who picked up the money, officers stopped the wanted car a few minutes later in Heilbronn as part of a manhunt. The woman's jewelry and cash were still in the car. The two occupants were arrested by the police.
