Bad Kötzting - Suspected car scratcher caught after ten years

A man in the Cham district is suspected to have damaged over 150 cars - this occurred over a period of approximately ten years. The suspect was arrested on a Saturday, according to the police statement made on a Friday. In the past few months, there have been numerous cases, most of the vehicles were parked on Wanderparkplätze at Lohberg and Lam in the Osser area.

Throughout the years, there have been long periods during which no damages were reported and the perpetrator apparently went into hiding, it was stated. There were matching scratch patterns. The 51-year-old man was caught in the act. The total damage is estimated to be in the middle six-figure range.

The suspect, residing in the Cham district of Bavaria, was allegedly responsible for the crimes committed in the Upper Palatinate region as well. The police in the District of Cham confirmed their involvement in the investigation of the numerous car damages in the Osser area. Despite the long-term absence of reported crimes, recent incidents indicated a resurgence of the criminal activity, focusing mainly on Wanderparkplätze at Lohberg and Lam.
