Suspected arms dealer charged
The public prosecutor's office in Frankfurt has brought charges against a 31-year-old suspected arms dealer before the Darmstadt Regional Court. He is accused of dealing in firearms and ammunition as well as the unauthorized possession of weapons of war, as the prosecution announced on Friday. The accused is alleged to have traded in the weapons in organized crime circles. A date for a trial has not yet been set; the regional court must first decide whether to admit the charges.
The man is also alleged to have been involved in the sale of several kilograms of marijuana. According to the Public Prosecutor General's Office, the man had already been arrested on the basis of another criminal case for a violation of the Weapons Act and has been in custody since September.
The man belongs to a family association in Rüsselsheim, which is currently being investigated by the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office against a total of 27 people. The charges include drug trafficking, weapons offenses and money laundering. Five suspects in the investigation have already been convicted and four others are in custody, according to the public prosecutor's office.
The accused is reportedly linked to the sale of several kilograms of marijuana in Rüsselsheim. Despite being in custody since September due to a prior Weapons Act violation, his involvement in organized crime circles and illegal arms dealing continues to be under investigation by the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office.
