- Suspect remains in hospital after butcher shop explosion

Following a fire at a butcher's shop in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen, two suspects are back on the streets, according to police. As of now, there's insufficient evidence for detention, they said. The younger of the two, aged 16, remains in hospital due to his burn injuries, a police spokesperson confirmed. No information was provided about possible motives.

Police arrested the 16-year-old and his alleged accomplice, aged 19, shortly after the fire on Tuesday morning. They are being investigated for suspected arson, as well as illegal street racing, driving without a license, and violating drug laws.

According to police, a witness claimed to have seen the younger suspect exiting the building before the explosion and getting into a waiting car. Alerted police then found the vehicle and pursued it. This led to a high-speed chase that ended in the Märkisches Viertel with the arrest of the two young men.

The witness's claim about the younger suspect led police to investigate further. Subsequently, they were able to locate and apprehend him and his accomplice.
