A sanitary container was destroyed and another container and a large tent were damaged in the fire in the refugee accommodation, which was still under construction, in the town in the district of Ansbach on November 23. No one was injured by the fire. The damage amounted to around 50,000 euros.

Based on the evidence, the investigators quickly found clues that pointed to deliberate arson. An investigation team from the criminal investigation department interviewed numerous witnesses and analyzed video recordings from the area around the scene of the fire.

Further investigations confirmed the suspicion against the man, which ultimately led to his arrest. At the request of the Ansbach public prosecutor's office, the local court also issued a search warrant for the suspect's home.
