Susan Buckner, known for her role as lively cheerleader Patty Simcox in 'Grease,' has passed away at the age of 72.

Susan Buckner, famous for portraying the upbeat cheerleader Patty Simcox at Rydell High School in the 1978 movie musical "Grease," has passed away. She was 72 years old.

Susan Buckner, known for her role as lively cheerleader Patty Simcox in 'Grease,' has passed away at the age of 72.

Susan Buckner, a well-known actress, passed away peacefully on May 2, surrounded by her loving family. Her publicist, Melissa Berthier, shared this news with CNN on Tuesday. The reason for her death hasn't been disclosed.

Berthier's statement expressed what a kindhearted, generous, and dedicated person Susan was, stating that her joyful spirit would continue to influence future performers and fans.

Hailing from Washington, Buckner became famous as Simcox, the lively and cheerful cheerleader from "Grease," where she acted alongside the iconic Sandy, played by Olivia Newton-John.

Before "Grease,"she won the Miss Washington title in 1971 and represented the state in the Miss American pageant. Her early career included appearances in "The Dean Martin Show," "Police Woman," and "Switch." In 1976, she shared the stage with the Brady Bunch cast, showcasing her dancing and synchronized swimming skills on "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour."

The years that followed saw Buckner starring in shows like "Starsky and Hutch," "The Love Boat," and "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries," and she even co-starred in the ABC series "When the Whistle Blows" with Dolph Sweet.

She then appeared in the 1981 horror film "Deadly Blessing" directed by Wes Craven, sharing the screen with Sharon Stone. Buckner's last onscreen role was as a news reporter in the 1989 film "Police Academy 6: City Under Siege."

Later, Buckner chose to leave Hollywood behind and focus on her family. She had two children, Adam Josephs and Samantha Mansfield, and spent nearly a decade teaching dance in Coral Gables.

She is survived by her partner Al, her sister Linda, her two children, and four grandchildren. Samantha Mansfield honored her mother by saying, "She was magic. She was my best friend. And I will miss her every day. I was lucky to have such a brilliant mother and now she's my guardian angel."
