- Survivors of mistreatment seek 800,000 euros in compensation from the Archdiocese of Cologne.
Another wronged individual is demanding a large sum of compensation from the Cologne Archdiocese. A representative from the Archdiocese acknowledged the filing of a lawsuit, but chose not to disclose additional information. As mentioned in the "Cologne Weekly Review" (both its weekend edition and online version), the accuser is requesting 800,000 euros, claiming to have been sexually assaulted as a child over 3 decades ago by the head of a choir boy's group.
The accuser has previously received a religious acknowledgment payment. Back in 1998, the young man was handed a probation sentence of 2 years for numerous similar transgressions.
A year prior, the Cologne Regional Court granted a man 300,000 euros in compensation, who had been mistreated as a teenager by a late priest. In a different lawsuit, where the plaintiff aims for 830,000 euros, a verdict is due soon. This lawsuit involves the former adoptive daughter of a priest, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sexual misconduct. Regrettably, it appears the Cologne Regional Court does not hold high hopes for this claim's success.
The Cologne Archdiocese has faced several lawsuits related to historical sexual assault cases. In response to the crime committed against a choir boy's group head's victim, the Archdiocese is now facing a demand for 800,000 euros.
