Survey reveals: Supporters of BSW and AfD harbor intense disdain toward German democracy
Most folks backing various parties in the Bundestag generally appreciated democratic procedures. Across the country, approximately 52% of people expressed being "extremely content" or "content" with democracy in Germany. Conversely, around 46% showed less satisfaction or no satisfaction whatsoever.
There existed disparities in assessments between the East and West. In the East, a substantial 55% of respondents felt less or no satisfaction with democracy. Contrarily, it was only 44% in the West.
The survey additionally inquired if one could openly voice their viewpoints and opinions in Germany without encountering significant personal repercussions. About 59% of respondents responded with "absolutely" or "leaning towards yes," while 37% expressed "leaning towards no" or "absolutely not."
A considerable majority of AfD and BSW supporters disapproved: an astounding 79% of AfD supporters believed that they couldn't freely express their views without apprehensions of negative consequences. On the other hand, among BSW supporters, it was 57%.
Those backing other parties largely held the belief that they could express their views without fearing repercussions.
Infratest Dimap polled 1,311 eligible voters in Germany from August 5 to 7, 2024.
In the context of the survey, a significant number of BSW supporters, specifically 57%, believed they might face repercussions for openly expressing their views. Interestingly, the AfD party's supporters had an even higher concern, with 79% expressing this concern.
