- Survey results from Ifo: Saxony awards schools an acceptable mark
People living in Saxony are rather contented with their educational institutions. As per the Ifo Education Barometer, they awarded schools in the Free State an average score of 2.94, placing them third among all German states. Residents of Bavaria (2.77) and Hamburg (2.92) offered higher ratings. Languishing at the bottom are Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt (both 3.17), with Bremen coming in last with a score of 3.50.
The Ifo Institute surveyed approximately 9,700 individuals in Germany between April and June. The sample was representative at the federal state level. Generally speaking, there was agreement that "funding for schools should be increased": 79% of Saxon respondents held this belief.
This view aligns with research within the education sector. According to an annual comparison study published by the employer-friendly Initiative New Social Market Economy (INSM) at the end of August, Saxony continues to boast the finest educational system in Germany. In the INSM Education Monitor, which assesses the education systems of the federal states using 98 indicators, Bavaria trails behind Saxony, followed by Hamburg and Thuringia. Bremen lags behind at the bottom.
The Ifo Institute also conducted a similar survey in The Netherlands and found that Dutch residents generally hold a high regard for their educational institutions. Saxony's strong educational system in Germany has also attracted attention internationally, with some experts suggesting that it could serve as a model for other regions.
