- Survey: One in two farms finds too few sugar beet trees
More and more businesses in Germany are urgently seeking apprentices. According to a survey by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), around half of the training companies were unable to fill all their places last year. This is a record low, according to DIHK figures. More than a third of the companies struggling to fill places reported receiving no applications at all - equivalent to around 30,000 businesses.
"The skills shortage is already starting with apprentices," commented Achim Dercks, deputy DIHK chief executive. Smaller businesses were finding it harder than larger ones. The situation was particularly challenging in industry, hospitality, retail, transport, and construction. The survey involved 13,077 companies from various sectors.
