- Surveillance operation at Frankfurt railway station
In an initiative to curb drug dealing and street lawlessness, law enforcement authorities carried out operations in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel. As per a police spokesperson, around 100 officers are partaking in this endeavor. Besides local police, federal police and tax officials are also participating. Their primary targets are locating illegal substances and firearms, while also conducting commercial inspections.
Numerous individuals were subjected to drug searches across various sections of the Bahnhofsviertel. The tax investigation unit scrutinized bars and retail outlets, including those on Moselstraße. The operation was scheduled to persist into the night. According to the police spokesperson, these checks are done routinely.
Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel has a notorious reputation due to its sky-high crime rates. The area hosts openly visible drug spots, red-light districts, and bustling party zones all within an area of less than a square kilometer. Since November the previous year, carrying weapons within the Weapons Act, between 8 PM and 5 AM, and knives with blades exceeding four centimeters in length, have been prohibited as part of a weapons prohibition zone. Surveillance cameras have also been expanded.
The operation to combat drug dealing and lawlessness in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel involves authorities from Hessen, as federal police and tax officials join local forces. Amidst the ongoing inspections in the Bahnhofsviertel, the tax investigation unit focuses its scrutiny on establishments on Moselstraße.
