Supposed vending machine blast: Defect triggers alarm

A large contingent of police and firefighters has been deployed in Duisburg due to an alleged ATM being blown up. According to a police spokesman, thick fog was coming from the self-service center of a bank on Sunday night. However, it quickly became clear that it was just a customer who had wanted to withdraw money and then, presumably due to a technical defect, had repeatedly triggered the fogging system. This is normally used to stop the perpetrators when vending machines are blown up. The fire department cleared the fog from the premises, according to the spokesperson. The "Westdeutsche Allgemeine" (WAZ) had previously reported on the incident.

Despite the cleared fog, the bank remained on high alert due to past emergencies involving vending machines. Furthermore, regular inspections and maintenance are crucial to prevent similar incidents in the future.
