Julian Nagelsmann spearheaded the charge. Armed with a piece of paper, Germany's national coach strode onto the field at Ernst-Abbe-Sports Field. A friendly greeting to the fans who rewarded him with warm applause. Things became louder still when, shortly after, Thomas Müller spearheaded the training crew onto the pitch, prompting 15,000 spectators to erupt with bandwagon cheers. The German national team completed its preliminary session for the European Championship.

Upon arrival at the Monday gathering in Jena, 17 field players and two goalkeepers were already present. Absent, however, were Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic, and David Raum, who merely participated in the warm-up exercises. Nagelsmann won't be able to have his entire team until next week, when players from Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund arrive. Manuel Neuer is also yet to make his appearance due to a stomach-intestinal illness.

Youtuber Marvin Wildhage Causes Mayhem in Jena

For a moment, there was a brief moment of disarray in Jena as one more player suddenly took to the field. Or was it even a player? A young man, clad in the official training attire and accompanied by a camera crew, appeared amidst the team. This was Marvin Wildhage, who was given access to the sideline by an unnamed DFB employee. Nagelsmann and most players were blissfully unaware of his presence.

Rudi Völler narrowly averted a catastrophe moments later when he deftly leapt in front of the pitch sprinkler's water fountain. "We're glad to be here, we're glad it's begun," remarked the DFB sports director. Conversing with former national players Bernd Schneider and Nils Petersen, along with Perry Bräutigam, the former goalkeeper of host club Carl Zeiss Jena, occupied him on the sidelines.
