About 2500 excited followers welcomed the Turkish national football squad during a public training session prior to the European Championship. Cheering on their team led by coach Vincenzo Montella, the majority of these young cheerleaders brandished flags, homemade signs, and Turkey-Turkey chants. A few fortunate fans even managed to snag autographs. The majority of tickets for the game at the August-Wenzel-Stadium in Barsinghausen were allocated to schools nearby.

Fans had been anticipating the arrival of their idols like midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu from Inter Milan, striker Kenan Yildiz from Juventus Turin, and Salih Özcan from Borussia Dortmund for a long time, long before the practice on Wednesday morning. Some of these fans adorned themselves in jerseys and other fan merchandise sold from a truck. A ball juggler entertained the fans before the appearance of the national team. Turkish music permeated the stadium boxes.

Absent from the training session were goalkeeper Mert Güvenok (Besiktas Istanbul) and offensive player Irfan Can Kahveci (Fenerbahce Istanbul), who were kept out as a precaution, according to a spokesperson for the federation.

Turkey is scheduled to play in Group F at the Euros on June 18 against Georgia (6 pm/RTL and MagentaTV) and on June 22 against Portugal (6 pm/ZDF and MagentaTV) in Dortmund, as well as on June 26 against the Czech Republic (9 pm/MagentaTV) in Hamburg.
