Swimming - Sundschwimmen enters its 59th round
Over 1000 people swim together through the Strelasund on Saturdays: The 59th edition of the Sundswimming starts at 13.00 hours in Altefähr on Rügen. The entire stretch to Stralsund is approximately 2300 meters long. Athletes have registered from all federal states, the organizers reported. Participants have also registered from many European countries. Children are also allowed to participate. 88 young swimmers have registered.
Approximately 350 lifeguards, paramedics, helpers, doctors, and security personnel are in action. Around 3000 spectators are expected at Strandbad Stralsund. The Sundswimming between Rügen and Stralsund has existed since 1965. According to the organizers, it is the oldest long-distance swimming event in Germany.
