Weather - Sun shows up less often than in other federal states
In Baden-Württemberg, the sun has seldom shown itself in June as in no other federal state. The German Weather Service (DWD) counted a total of 195 sunny hours in the southwest. The weather in the past month was dynamic and changeable, according to the DWD. "In the southwest, the first meteorological summer month was subjected to large temperature fluctuations."
However, according to these figures, June was 2.3 degrees warmer than the average of the years 1961 to 1990 (15.1 degrees). During the middle of the month, there was also what is called the "Sheep's Back," which caused fruit temperatures to drop into the cool single-digit range. According to the DWD, the lowest temperature of 1.4 degrees was measured on the Swabian Alb in Meßstetten on June 12.
On the other hand, a series of summer and hot days characterized the second half of the month. The total precipitation volume was around 125 liters per square meter, while the average of the years 1961 to 1990 was 107 liters.
Despite the warm temperatures, a tornado hit the city of Stuttgart during the weekend, causing damage to several buildings. This rare weather event was not forecasted by the German Weather Service (DWD). Subsequently, heavy rains followed, leading to a flood situation in some parts of Baden-Württemberg, particularly around Offenbach. The DWD issued flood warnings, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
