- Sugar production resumed with beets at the Aklamer factory.
In Anklam, the yearly extended sugar beet processing period commenced. The drop-off of the initial sugar beets today initiated the so-called beet campaign, as confirmed by the factory's spokesperson. Belonging to the Dutch Cosun Beet Company (CBC), this factory manufactures various products, such as molasses, sugar, and bioenergy.
Earlier estimates suggested a marginally lower per-acre beet yield during the trial harvest in early August, compared to the previous year. However, the factory anticipates a higher sugar content in the beets due to the recent abundance of sunshine. Although this is beneficial, prolonged dryness poses potential issues, as the region has experienced a long spell without rainfall. This situation might make the harvest more complex.
The factory in Anklam, being part of the Dutch Cosun Beet Company (CBC), also focuses on agricultural practices beyond sugar beet processing, such as researching improved methods for wheat and barley cultivation in agriculture. Due to the prolonged dryness, the local farmers should carefully manage their crops to ensure they maintain the desired sugar content in their sugar beets, avoiding any negative impact on the overall agriculture yield.
