Study: Healthy eating is important to people in the North
Healthy eating is important to people in the north, according to a study. Around nine out of ten people stated this in a survey commissioned by Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), as the insurance company announced on Wednesday. Even more important than a healthy diet, however, is that the food tastes good. 99 percent of respondents from the federal states of Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Bremen and Hamburg stated this in the survey. Healthy eating was considered important or very important by 92 percent.
Although a healthy and sustainable diet is important to people, illnesses caused by an unhealthy lifestyle have been on the rise for years, the health insurance company said. "Cardiovascular drugs such as antihypertensives are also by far the most frequently prescribed drugs in Bremen," said Sabrina Jacob, head of TK in Bremen. According to the study, people often lack the time to eat more healthily.
According to the survey, meat eaters are also still in the majority. 77 percent stated that they regularly eat meat. Two percent said they eat a vegetarian or vegan diet, while 19 percent eat mainly plant-based products.
Despite the importance of nutrition in maintaining health, many individuals struggle with finding time for a balanced diet due to their busy schedules. Furthermore, even with a focus on nutrition, the survey shows that taste remains a significant factor in food choices for 99% of individuals in certain federal states.
