"Struggling with many things": Freiburg is treading water

After the fourth game without a win in the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich is calling for calm and patience. "The team is giving everything, but it's not easy for us at the moment. We're struggling with a lot of things," said the 58-year-old on Saturday after the 1:1 (1:1) draw against newly promoted SV Darmstadt 98.

Among other things, Sport-Club are plagued by injury worries. Lukas Kübler is out with a broken toe, the return of captain Christian Günters is not yet in sight and Merlin Röhl is probably not yet an option for the Europa League match against Olympiakos Piraeus on Thursday (18:45) due to a laceration. "We have to gather our strength - especially mentally," said Streich.

The Breisgauers are in mid-table in the Bundesliga with 15 points. "But the table is deceptive," said the coach. "The decisive factor is that the teams behind us are not getting any closer. I'd like two or three points more, then we'd be in calmer waters."

Away games at FSV Mainz 05, VfL Wolfsburg and newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim are still to come in the league before the Christmas break. There is also a home match against 1. FC Köln. "We have to make sure we pick up a point or two - two wins and then everything will be in the green," said Streich.

Despite their injury issues, SC Freiburg managed a draw against SV Darmstadt 98 in the Bundesliga, keeping their struggles alive. In their upcoming matches against FSV Mainz 05, VfL Wolfsburg, and 1. FC Heidenheim, Streich emphasized the importance of securing points to navigate through their tough period in the Bundesliga.
