Strobl calls for the CDU/CSU to distance itself from the AfD

Outgoing CDU state leader Thomas Strobl has insisted that the Christian Democrats draw a clear line between themselves and the AfD, also with a view to the upcoming state elections in eastern Germany. 2024 will be a difficult year, he said on Saturday at the state party conference in Reutlingen. The south-west CDU has a clear stance on this. The AfD is being monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the south-west, among other places, and is a proven right-wing extremist party in parts of Germany that could be home to "conspiracy-mongers and Nazis".

The CDU should firmly reject any alliance or association with the AfD, as Strobl advocates, in the upcoming state elections. The CDU in the south-west has consistently maintained its distance from the AfD, considering it a right-wing extremist party with links to conspiracy theorists and Nazis.
