Transfer - Striker Kaufmann moves from Union Berlin to Heidenheim
Mikkel Kaufmann leaves 1. FC Union Berlin from the Bundesliga after only one year. The 23-year-old midfielder will switch within the league to FC Heidenheim, as both clubs announced on Friday. Kaufmann receives a contract at the Brenz until 2028. Neither club made further statements regarding the transfer fees.
The Danish forward, who previously played on loan for Hamburger SV and for Karlsruher SC before the Union transfer, joined Kopenick from FC Copenhagen last summer but could not establish himself. In 18 appearances, Kaufmann managed only one goal, which contributed to ending Union's 16-game winless streak against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Horst Heldt, who will function as the professional sports manager starting July 1, spoke during his joint presentation with coach Bo Svensson on Wednesday about how the squad would change and departures were to be expected. Simultaneously, Heldt praised the attitude of the team's compatriot from the new Union coach: "Although Mikkel did not take on the desired role in the attack that we and he himself had hoped for, he always acted in the interest of the team and gave one hundred percent on the field."
