Trade union - Strike at the Amazon site in Winsen

The service trade union Verdi is calling on employees at the Amazon site in Winsen in the district of Harburg to go on strike for one day from Sunday evening. According to the union, the reason is Amazon's refusal to recognize the applicable collective agreements. The action starts at 7.30 pm and is scheduled to last until 11.15 pm on Monday. Several rallies are planned on site.

" Amazon customers are encouraged to order and consume more and more, especially at Christmas. However, employees' health suffers massively from the resulting workload and work density," said Nonni Morisse, Verdi secretary for Amazon in Lower Saxony. At the Winsen site, there are repeated dismissals due to sick days.

In addition to the demand to recognize the collective wage agreements of the retail and mail order sector, Verdi is also calling for Amazon to sign a "collective agreement for good and healthy work". In the long dispute with the union, the company argues that it offers its employees fair wages with additional benefits. Among other things, it refers to entry-level wages of 14 euros per hour. Amazon operates 20 large logistics centers in Germany.
