State Office of Criminal Investigation - Strike against international gang of thieves

The Saxon State Office of Criminal Investigation(LKA) has succeeded in striking a blow against an internationally active gang of thieves. Numerous properties in Poland and Mallorca were searched at the end of November, as the Dresden public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday. Evidence such as radios, cell phones, SIM cards and suspected stolen goods were seized.

The proceedings are directed against eight Polish suspects aged between 33 and 46. European arrest warrants and search warrants were obtained for three of the men. The Polish authorities had investigated the other suspects separately and executed five further arrest warrants and search warrants.

The gang is accused of slitting small holes in the tarpaulins of trucks at night at freeway service areas and stealing valuable cargo if it appeared to be of value. A total of around 70 crimes were attributed to the gang between 2015 and 2021.

The investigations were conducted by the "tarpaulin slitting" coordination unit set up at the Saxony State Criminal Police Office in close cooperation with the respective police directorates and public prosecutor's offices as well as the responsible authorities in Poland.
