Stricter rules now apply to gambling in arcades in Saarland. Gambling halls will have to close at two o'clock at night, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced in Saarbrücken on Monday. There are also restrictions on the sale of food and drink plus a strict smoking ban.

This is provided for by amendments to the Saarland Gambling Halls Act, which came into force last Friday. Previously, arcades in Saarland were allowed to remain open until four o'clock.

The tightening of the law also stipulates that arcades must be at least 250 meters away from establishments that are primarily frequented by minors. Saar gaming arcades are now also better connected to the nationwide barring system, according to the ministry. Banned gamblers will be prohibited from gambling halls. According to the information, there are currently around 120 arcades in Saarland.
