Streich wishes Ginter a return to the DFB

If Matthias Ginter continues to perform consistently at Bundesliga club SC Freiburg, he will soon be a candidate for the German national team again for his coach Christian Streich. "For him, it's about performing well on the pitch with us and playing really well. Then the people in charge will see that and bring him back in," said Streich on Thursday. "That would be my idea of how it should go and I assume that's what will happen. Then we'd all be happy - the national team and us too."

Central defender Ginter played his last international match to date in June against Ukraine (3:3). The 29-year-old did not play in the following two games in Poland (0:1) and against Colombia (0:2) and has not been called up since. Ginter has appeared in 16 matches for Sport-Club this season.

However, Streich was reluctant to comment on the situation of the DFB squad, which is stumbling badly. "Everyone is saying something about it anyway, I'm the only one missing," he said. In the two most recent international matches, Germany suffered two further setbacks against Turkey (2:3) and in Austria (0:2) on the way to next year's European Championship in their own country.

If Ginter's impressive performances continue in the Bundesliga with SC Freiburg, it might lead to his inclusion in the German national team, just like SV Darmstadt 98's opponents in their next match. Ginter has been a consistent performer for Freiburg this season, playing in 16 matches so far.
