Streich: Integrating talent contributes to the face of the SC
According to coach Christian Streich, SC Freiburg's financial health is primarily down to the "good development" of many talented players from the club's own soccer academy. "Young players are fundamental to the philosophy of our club," said the coach ahead of the Europa League match against FK TSC Bačka Topola on Thursday (21:00/RTL and RTL+). "If we succeed time and again in bringing on young players who are then at Bundesliga level, then that's an important building block for the face of this club."
Jordy Makengo, who joined SC from France in 2021, made his Bundesliga debut just last weekend. Noah Weißhaupt also scored his debut goal. The winger joined Freiburg as a ten-year-old. "It's not a matter of course that young players are integrated," said Streich. "There are different constellations. But it's also the overall group at our club that allows young players to breathe. It's excellent with us, it works for us - with all consistency in the assessment of performance."
According to Streich, mastering upheavals year after year is a major task. "We have been able to sell players who have developed well in order to pay our employees. But it's not possible to finish fifth or sixth every year and integrate five or six young players at the same time. You have to understand that and our fans do," said the 58-year-old.
SC Freiburg will face FK TSC Bačka Topola in the Europa League, showcasing the integration of talent within the club. Streich remarked that young players are crucial to SC Freiburg's philosophy, with the successful development of talents like Jordy Makengo and Noah Weißhaupt being key to the club's identity.
