Bundesliga - Streich hopes for the return of captain Günter

Freiburg coach Christian Streich hopes that his captain Christian Günter will return soon. "It wasn't funny what happened over the months. He has had several operations. That's why we're extremely happy that he's feeling better," said the SC coach on Sunday on the sidelines of the Bundesliga match against 1. FC Köln on DAZN.

Günter has been missing for the Breisgau club since the first matchday in August due to an infection in his broken forearm. The eight-time international had to undergo medical and surgical treatment. On Saturday, the 30-year-old reported back via Instagram: "After a long, difficult time of uncertainty, with many ups and downs and some very dark moments for me, I am all the more pleased that I can finally tell you at the end of the year that I am on the road to recovery."

According to Streich, the next step is to build up his muscles and work on his fitness. "Then he can get back into team training. I don't want to make any predictions. Now we hope it continues like this," said Streich. Günter hopes "to be able to attack again in the course of the second half of the season".
