After some difficult weeks, Freiburg are back on top. Streich's team can go one better in Heidenheim.

SC Freiburg - Streich after third win: "24 points - sensational"

Even before the end of the year at 1. FC Heidenheim, Christian Streich was highly satisfied with the first half of the season at SC Freiburg. "We had such a difficult first half of the season. The fact that we now have 24 points is sensational," said the 58-year-old, beaming with joy after the 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln on Sunday evening and the third victory in the Bundesliga.

Streich referred to the many injured players the Breisgauers have had or still have - including captain Christian Günter. "We are working hard. What the physios and docs are pulling off here - madness!" said the SC coach. The Europa League participants are still close to the top of the table. On Wednesday (20:30/Sky), Freiburg will face their Baden-Württemberg rivals Heidenheim, whose coach Frank Schmidt, like Streich, is a regular in the professional game.

"The team is able - and this always amazes me - to win the close games or at least not lose them," praised Streich. He particularly highlighted the goalscorers Michael Gregoritsch and Roland Sallai, who came off the bench. The two had no complaints about not playing from the start and were not over-motivated: "For me, these are further developments - the clarity, the acceptance, that's what it's all about."
