Fire - Straw store caught fire: Six-figure damage

In Plauen, in the district of Kauschwitz, a straw storage facility went up in flames. The pile with its covering on the field was already fully engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived, as the police reported. A forklift, which was stored in the straw storage facility, was also completely burnt out.

The firefighting efforts in the Vogtlandkreis lasted several hours. Since water pipes had to be laid over the B92, the federal road was closed for two hours. Preliminary estimates put the damage in the middle six-figure range. The Criminal Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

In the previous week, there were two large fires of hundreds of straw bales in Saxony. Several hundred straw bales went up in flames on a field in Großweitzschen. A stack of straw bales also caught fire on a farmer's property in Plauen.

The fire in Plauen, specifically in Kauschwitz, spread to the nearby field where a large pile of straw was stored. Despite the fire department's prompt arrival, the pile and the forklift stored within were both completely consumed by the flames. The Police in Saxony are now closely monitoring the situation, as similar large fires involving straw have occurred in the region recently.
