- Stormy weather and possible temperature record in North Rhine-Westphalia
The somewhat inconsistent and changeable summer is underway in North Rhine-Westphalia and could challenge the state's current temperature record of 35.4 degrees. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an extreme heat warning for today, advising people to avoid strenuous outdoor activities with peak temperatures up to 35 degrees.
The air is muggy and at least in the morning, it's sunny. However, this changes throughout the day: thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and gusts of wind will replace the sunny weather. At least it cools down at night. With low temperatures of 22 to 16 degrees, there could be heavy thunderstorms and showers in some areas.
Muggy weather brings severe storms
On Wednesday, temperatures will rise again. While the peak temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees don't quite reach the highs of the previous day, it will still be summery hot. According to the DWD, the muggy weather will bring severe storms in the form of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail. In some regions, gusts of wind could also occur.
After a cloudy night with some showers and a slight decrease in temperatures, meteorologists expect similar values on Thursday. The precipitation will decrease, with only a few showers moving east. Towards the end of the week, sunny and pleasant weather returns.
The muggy weather leading up to Thursday could potentially transform into a Hurricane-like condition, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. On Friday, thankfully, the Hurricane-like conditions are expected to subside, allowing the region to enjoy the return of sunny and pleasant weather.
