Summer thunderstorm - Storms in Saxony - thunder and lightning, especially in the Vogtland region
In parts of Saxony, hot and humid weather is releasing itself in thunderstorms. According to the Zwickau Police Directorate, the Vogtland region was particularly affected on Saturday afternoon. There were uprooted trees and, after heavy rain, flooded streets. However, the situation was not critical, it was stated. The extent of the damages was initially unknown.
There were thunder and lightning in Chemnitz in the afternoon as well. In Leipzig, however, it only growled, according to police information, but a lot of rain fell. While the sky was getting darker in Dresden, a blue sky was reported from Eastern Saxony.
The German Weather Service had warned of strong thunderstorms in wide parts of the free state. There was a risk of lightning strikes, uprooted trees, and falling objects. Occasionally, there was also a risk of flash floods, aquaplaning, and hailstorms.
