Weather - Storms cause flooded cellars and underpasses
Strong rain showers led to numerous flooded basements and overflowing underpasses in Augsburg and adjacent districts on Wednesday evening. The fire department reported being in action at many locations to pump water out of basements. Some underpasses were completely flooded and impassable for vehicles. The emergency services had to rescue several people who had driven their vehicles into such flooded areas. For example, the emergency services were called to an flooded underpass in the Augsburg district of Spickel, where a driver could no longer continue. However, by the time the emergency services arrived, this person had already managed to free themselves.
The heavy rainfall in Bavaria's SWABIA region caused storm waters to flood numerous underpasses in Augsburg and surrounding areas, making them hazardous for vehicles. Despite the fire department's efforts to help, several individuals drove their vehicles into these flooded underpasses, necessitating rescue operations. An instance of such an incident occurred in Augsburg's Spickel district, where an underpass was submerged, but fortunately, the driver had already maneuvered out by the time emergency services arrived.
