Weather - Storms across the country: streets and cellars under water

Dark clouds over Lake Constance, Lightning flashes in the popular holiday region and heavy rain is flooding streets, cellars, and even an entire camping site: Storms hit the Bodensee and Oberschwaben regions on Wednesday and later also the areas around Stuttgart, leaving the emergency services no rest. Reports of heavy rain were also coming from the northern part of the country. The fire departments were reportedly in constant operation.

The region around Markdorf in the Bodenseekreis was particularly affected. There, the fire department evacuated a camping site. According to their reports, around 200 campers were affected, no one was injured. The water was between 10 and 50 centimeters deep, as a fire department spokesperson reported.

People were rescued from the flooded area using a bulldozer and Unimog. It had rained intensely for an hour. The campers were able to return to the site later. Many likely gathered together, as the spokesperson assumed, because the site was not usable at first.

In Oberteuringen (Bodenseekreis), streets were flooded, cellars were filled. Around Ravensburg, it rained and thundered heavily for around two hours on Wednesday morning. The spokeswoman did not provide precise damage information at first.

In Singen, several underpasses were closed. In Vogt near Ravensburg, a lightning strike set the roof of a house on fire. The fire department was called to a larger firefighting operation. No one was injured, according to the police.

But after the temporary evacuation of the fan zones for the Football European Championship in the Stuttgart city center, the police gave the all-clear on the platform X in the middle of the Wednesday afternoon. "All fan zones are open again," they reported. "We thank you for your patience and look forward to your visit." The fans on the Market Square and the Karlsplatz were previously asked to seek shelter in buildings due to bad weather.

Creeks and rivers overflowed in the Rems-Murr-District and the Ludwigsburg District, several centimeters deep water stood on several road intersections, for example in Berglen, Winnenden, Burgstetten, Schorndorf and Miedelsbach. The fire department reported several interventions, for example one from the fields causing a mudslide in the Wolfsölden area of Affalterbach.

Trees also blocked the road between Sinsheim and Weiler, and according to the police, trees were also falling in the Neckar-Odenwald-District.
